WHO WE ARE

Timeline of our continuous development towards becoming the technological market leader.

We have more than half a century of experience under our belt.

In the mid forties, Kurt van Hees capitalized on the advantages and properties of food phosphates in meat processing and developed many now familiar, patented, quality additives. Mr. van Hees was a recognized visionary and pioneer in the industry. In 1947, he founded VAN HEES Gmbh and set out to build a name for himself within the butcher trade by motivating a network of employees who were committed to making technical expertise available, on demand, to an ever growing customer base.

In the fifties, Vereinigten Gewurzmuhlen was founded under the management of Juliane van Hees. By the end of the sixties, the factory in Walluf in the German Rheingau was erected. That original plant continuously modernized, upgraded and expanded, is still the root of our proud tradition of production expertise.

With the entry of Hendrik van Hees in the seventies, branches were developed in France, Belgium, and the Netherlands. In 1979, after the early death of the founder's son, Brigitte van Hees and Ilonka van Hees became actively involved in corporate governance as supervisory shareholders.

In 1985, VAN HEES merged with the Vereinigten Gewurzmuhlen to become the VAN HEES & Gewurzmuhlen Gmbh. The resulting transfer of know-how successfully served as the catalyst for the successful development of Eastern European markets.

In 1996, VAN HEES acquired Van Uelft (flavoring, seasoning, and coloring) and in 1998 Gewurzmuhle Wichartz in Wuppertal. The Wichartz acquisition was an entrepreneurial move designed to expand our competence in aromas.

In 2000, the production of the Forbach, France facility was doubled and we enjoyed the most profitable year in our history.

In 2001, we began our campaign to penetrate the North American market with the incorporation of VAN HEES NorthAm Inc.

Our mission is to expand carefully by intensifying pentration in new geographic markets for spice mixtures and functional food additives. We bring high value added products to the meat processing business by concentrating on our core business, and minimized risk.
